Bishop Michael Barber

Bishop Michael Barber was ordained in 1985 after studying at Gonzaga University, Regis College, and the Gregorian University. He served as a U.S. Navy chaplain, reaching the rank of Captain. Pope Francis appointed him Bishop of Oakland in 2013, making him the first American bishop appointed by Pope Francis. He has held various leadership positions in seminaries and is multilingual. He has also received the Meritorious Service Medal from the U.S. Navy and is a Knight of the Holy Sepulchre and a magistral chaplain of the Order of Malta.
